Description
Exstew Falls, Terrace BC Canada Exstew Falls was one of the most incredible waterfalls I have ever seen - and I grew up in Niagara Falls! The drive to get here was along a very long and extremely rough logging road. With no cell phone service, I had to rely on instinct and very little information to find this! All I knew was to “keep right” and to watch for a large memorial. Thankfully, I had rented an SUV, a compact car would likely have not made this drive. The drive was beautiful, well off the main road there was so much wildlife and changing scenery along the way to the waterfall. On the way out, I stopped to photograph 2 beavers, an otter and a bald eagle. I spotted a great deal of bear poop but I wouldn’t see my first bear until the next day. Finally, after a long, slow and careful 10km drive I spotted the memorial and a small wooden sign pointing to the trail to Exstew Falls. It was an easy and scenic hike to get to the base of the waterfall, you can hear it long before you can see it but once you round the corner prepare to have your breath taken away! It appears that Exstew Falls is fed from a melting glacier atop Mount Morris which then runs down into Exstew Creek and then into the Skeena River. The mist coming off of this waterfall was powerful and I drenched within minutes! Given the wind and the amount of mist, there would be no chance of getting photos with my camera, so I had to rely on my cell phone camera and my drone. When I tried using my camera, my lens was soaked with mist droplets instantly! If you are in Terrace, Exstew Falls is not to be missed - but make sure you bring rain gear and prepare to be soaked!
